Ember of Hope Counseling and Training Services is a transformative healing organization founded and led by husband-and-wife team Janine, Dakelh/Wet’suwet’en & Richard Sampson, Gitxsan based out of the unceded traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh, in Prince George, British Columbia.
Our story
Ember of Hope is an owner, operator-led company that delivers gatherings (also called workshops), trainings, consulting, and counseling services. Participants are empowered and equipped to learn, experience, and integrate new knowledge into their lives. The Ember of Hope team does this work with a person-centred, trauma-informed, culturally safe, and strength-based practice. They help participants learn how to stay present and have grace for one another in times of crisis. What sets Ember of Hope apart is its creative facilitation approach. Each gathering is tailored to meet participants where they’re at – no prescribed manuals or rehearsed speeches. The team integrates self-expression, acceptance, and love into all aspects of their gatherings and trainings.

Why
Janine and Richard envision a society where First Nations people are thriving. This starts with educating people about how trauma impacts and manifests within our minds and bodies. By helping participants understand these natural processes and behaviours, Ember of Hope works to address the trauma and stress that prevent First Nations people and communities from flourishing emotionally, mentally, physically, financially, and spiritually.
Richard and Janine have facilitated gatherings and other valuable services for agencies such as the First Nations Health Authority and numerous First Nations communities throughout British Columbia.
We believe that our people deserve the best services possible, and that’s what we set out to do when we go into communities. We all deserve the best help and support possible.
About
The name ‘Ember of Hope’ speaks to the idea of an ember, the remains of a roaring fire. To revive the fire, we must blow on the embers. Eventually, the fire comes back to life. The breath we use to rekindle the fire is the same breath that carries the words needed to reignite the spirit and fire within each of us.
